Students will be introduced to Uta Hagen's tried-and-true exercises and put them into practice. Students will explore the first step of the techniques by doing the ten object exercises as “themselves” and then apply them to a character from a monologue. These techniques are invaluable for helping actors navigate the challenges of creating a character, working on a script, and finding privacy on stage. Actors will discover a strong sense of place, time, destination, intention, action, given circumstances, stakes, and more. This class is perfect for intermediate and advanced students who are new to Hagen’s techniques or those who want to sharpen their tools.
Please note: This class requires outside work and rehearsal.

This four-week course is designed for the actor who has always longed to take an acting class.
In this foundational class, you will explore play and imagination through theatre games, ensemble work, voice, movement, and more. You will learn foundational tools such as objectives, obstacles, given circumstances, subtext and begin to apply them to monologue and scene work all while being encouraged and challenged to finally explore the artistic side of yourself.

Auditioning is a skill. Full stop.
In Audition Technique, you will learn the best ways to work on sides that you prepare in advance before an audition and how to give a strong cold read. You will practice walking into the room and explore how to play off other actors and a reader so you can go into your next audition with confidence.
Please note: This class will require you to work on some sides at home and to bring in one short, prepared monologue.

Join guest instructor Philip Hays for a 5-week crash course in clown, physical theatre, mask work and commedia dell’arte. Find the fun in your craft as you hone skills in developing characters, focusing on your objectives/obstacles, connecting with the audience, and letting go of the need to “get it right.”
Philip has two decades of professional experience as an actor, director, and educator in Houston theatre. He is a former member of the Prague Shakespeare Company and trained at the Scuola Internazionale dell’Attore Comico. He is allergic to nuts, dairy, and shellfish. www.philiphays.com

This 5-week class is for the adult actor who hungers to create and grow in a safe space.
Actors of all levels will sharpen their craft by diving deep into script analysis, scene work, and character development to create an honest, multidimensional character based on the text while exploring bold physical and vocal choices. If you want to be challenged and grow out of your comfort zone as an actor, then this class is for you.
